Recycled Fabrics

Recycled Polyester - What is it?

Polyester is a synthetic fabric that is widely used in the clothing industry due to its durability, versatility, and affordability. However, the production of virgin polyester has been linked to various environmental issues, including greenhouse gas emissions, water pollution, and waste generation. In recent years, the use of recycled polyester has gained popularity as a more sustainable alternative to virgin polyester.

How is it made?
Recycled polyester is made by collecting post-consumer waste, such as plastic bottles, and transforming it into new polyester fibers. This process involves shredding the bottles into small flakes, melting them down, and spinning them into yarn. The resulting fibers have the same quality and properties as virgin polyester, but with a significantly lower environmental footprint.

What are the benefits?
One of the primary benefits of using recycled polyester in clothing is the reduction of waste. According to the EPA, only 9% of plastic waste is recycled, while the rest ends up in landfills, incinerators, or the natural environment. By using recycled polyester in clothing, we can divert some of this waste from the landfill and give it a second life.

Additionally, the production of recycled polyester requires less energy and resources compared to virgin polyester. According to a study by Textile Exchange, the production of recycled polyester generates 32% fewer greenhouse gas emissions, uses 94% less water, and reduces energy consumption by 60% compared to virgin polyester. These significant reductions in environmental impact are due to the use of pre-existing materials, rather than creating new ones from scratch.

Using recycled polyester also helps to reduce our dependence on non-renewable resources, such as petroleum. The production of virgin polyester requires fossil fuels, which are finite resources that contribute to climate change. By using recycled polyester, we can reduce our reliance on these non-renewable resources and create a more circular economy.

Finally, using recycled polyester in clothing can help to raise awareness about the importance of sustainability. As more consumers become aware of the environmental impact of clothing production, they are seeking out more sustainable options. By using recycled polyester, we can show our commitment to reducing waste, conserving resources, and mitigating climate change.

Our commitment to the environment
We are committed to the use of recycled polyester due to the numerous environmental benefits, including waste reduction, energy and resource conservation, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and decreased reliance on non-renewable resources. By incorporating recycled polyester into our products, we can play a vital role in creating a more sustainable and circular fashion industry.
