Why choose swimwear with UPF protection?

Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) is an important factor to consider when purchasing swimwear for sun protection. UPF measures the amount of ultraviolet (UV) radiation that can penetrate a fabric, and indicates how much UV radiation is blocked by the fabric.

Exposure to UV radiation is a major risk factor for skin cancer, which is the most common form of cancer in the United States. In fact, skin cancer is so common that one in five Americans will develop it at some point in their lives.

Wearing clothing with a high UPF rating is one of the most effective ways to protect your skin from the harmful effects of UV radiation.  UPF-rated clothing is specifically designed to block UV rays, and is often made from tightly-woven fabrics that offer more protection than regular clothing.

Swimwear is a particularly important type of clothing to consider when it comes to UPF ratings. The sun's rays are strongest during the summer months, and people often spend extended periods of time outdoors during these months, exposing their skin to UV radiation.

Swimming and other water activities also increase the amount of time that people are exposed to the sun, as the reflection of the sun's rays off of the water can increase the amount of UV radiation that reaches the skin.

Wearing swimwear with a high UPF rating can help protect your skin from the damaging effects of UV radiation while you are swimming or enjoying other water activities. In addition to UPF-rated swimwear, it is also important to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, and to reapply it frequently throughout the day.
